Some questions new naturists may ask

Q. Will I have to be naked all the time?

A. When appropriate, yes (see the text above); but no one expects you to strip off when it is cold or you are in brambles.

Q. Do men and women share the same loos and showers?

A. Yes, but they have doors!. Don’t you share use of  them at home?

Q. I’ve not got a very good body. Won’t people stare or giggle at me?

A. No. No-one is perfect ( anyway, what is ‘perfect’?). Naturism is a ‘freedom’ and ‘acceptance’ thing, not a ‘beauty’ thing. You will soon see that you are among friends who accept you for who you are not how you look.

Q. What if I meet someone I know ‘outside’, at the club?

A. Great! It means they are a naturist too, and you have more in common than you thought.

Q. What if I am on my period?

A. Cope as you normally do. No one will mind if you feel you want to wear a bikini bottom, but don’t feel you have to. Above all don’t let it spoil your enjoyment of naturism. It’s natural, so it really is not an issue.

Q. What if I get an erection?

A. It’s most unlikely. The atmosphere in a naturist club is not ‘sexy’, so somehow it just doesn’t seem to happen. If you should get an ‘accidental’ one, don’t worry, be discreet and don’t flaunt it and it you’ll be forgiven.

Q. Should I tell my friends I am a naturist?

A. That’s up to you. Most people are either interested to know more or just not bothered at all. It is rare to come across any form of condemnation nowadays. It is best not to talk about other club members outside the club though, as they may have reasons of their own not to disclose their membership.

Q. What about naturist beaches?

A. There are a couple of unofficial but well used naturist beaches on the Isle of Wight, and they’re both lovely. Ask other club members, they’ll give you details.

Q. Can I bring my children to the club?

A.  Of course. The Club Grounds are a great place for children to enjoy themselves. Up to the age of 18, members’ children are covered by their parents’ membership and are therefore automatically members themselves.

Q. Can I bring my friends to the club?

A. Our rules and constitution do allow for trial visits for people who are interested to try it, possibly with a view to joining. However, you should talk to a committee member before bringing in any non-members.

Q. What about tattoos or body piercing?

A. The club has no policy on either. Whether you do or whether you don’t shouldn’t stop you being a naturist.

Q. Can I bring my dog to the club?

A. Dogs are allowed, but they must be kept on a lead at all times and properly controlled so as not to annoy other members. Any mess must be properly cleared up.

Q. What about naturist holidays?

A. There are a wealth of all sorts of naturist resorts and facilities all over the world now. BN Magazine is an excellent source of information, and the BN organisation has advisors who can tell you what you need to know. Many club members take naturist holidays and will be happy to pass on their experiences.

Q. How about disabled people?

A. So long as they can cope with our facilities no-one need worry that being disabled will debar them from enjoying VSC membership or the pleasure of naturism. Like everyone else it’s who you are not the shape you are that counts. If in doubt, try it.

Q. I can’t stay out in the sun long. Does that matter?

A. No. Most naturists like sunshine, but it doesn’t matter if you can’t take it - sit in the shade, many do. It can be as pleasant to be naked out of the sun as in it, indoors as well as out. Do your own thing and stop worrying about what other people think!

Q. I am attracted to naturism but my partner isn’t. What should I do?

A. The worst thing you can do is to try to become a secret naturist on your own! Honesty is important in any relationship, and if you discuss it you can find out what the stumbling block actually is. Once that is known, perhaps you can find a way round it and he or she will be prepared to try it. It is often the case that people who initially were reluctant to try it actually enjoy it so much that they regret having left it so long find out the truth. Don’t force anyone though, and don’t try too much too soon. Where a person has a spouse or partner, we do prefer that they are both members. At VSC we will try to help provide a safe, friendly non-threatening atmosphere at the club or at a swim for those sampling a lifestyle, which has brought so much pleasure to so many naturists throughout the world.

Q Do I have to join CCBN (‘BN’)?

A It’s not compulsory, but we do recommend personal membership of CCBN both to enjoy the information & benefits it brings, and to support naturism generally.

Q I don’t live on the Isle of Wight. Can I still join Valerian Sun Club?

A Yes. We have a number of members who live on the mainland, and visit when they can. It can be a way of having remarkably inexpensive holidays!

Q How do I apply for membership?

A Email us from our website www.valerian.fsworld.co.uk. We’ll send you some more information and an application form. Complete and return the form to us and you will be asked to meet some members, probably during trial visits to the club or our swim/sauna sessions, so you can ask all you like, and so both sides can judge whether we are right for each other. Assuming all is well, membership is approved at the next committee meeting, usually within a month, and you can start making new friends and enjoying naturist life as a part of Valerian Sun Club.
